TALKING TODDLERS: parent & me early language program
Did you know? Children are born wanting to talk and communicate. The first three years of life are critically important for language development. During these early years, how, and how much, you talk to your child has a significant influence on their language skills. How you respond to your child's wants and needs, at an early age, helps them learn to use words and sentences. If your child is delayed communicating, parents often ask, "What can we do to help our child talk?"
This parent and child program is designed to provide instruction on early language development and on how to support language learning in natural environments. This play-based class teaches foundational skills to foster parent-child relationships that build communication development. Parents will better understand how to talk with their toddler, in order to elicit foundational communication skills. Skill development includes:
- attending
- using joint attention
- following directions
- imitating
- using words and phrases to effectively express needs and wants
- building vocabulary
- making appropriate requests and protests
- participating with peers
- turn-taking
- using age-appropriate play sills
